Bear Lake: Snow

Everyone had fun in the snow. Audrey and mom just walked along the road, stomping the snow. Dad, Kimee, and cousins Mariah and Emma tried to go sledding down a big hill, but found out a trail had not been made. They spent quite a bit of time blazing a trail, and not as much time actually sledding. But they still had fun. After a while, they were all cold, tired and ready for hot chocolate.

horses

Kimee absolutely loves horses. She would rather play with horses than anything else. You should hear the conversations her horses have with each other. Audrey is following suit and starting to like horses too, but she is rarely "allowed" to play with them.

When Kimee was little (like 2 and 3) we would specifically drive to the Walmart that has horses nearby so that she could look at them and pet their noses. Now that it's often on the way home, we can stop more often. She is really good with talking to them and petting them, like a natural.

The horse craze got more intense last year after discovering the movie, Spirit. Which, by the way, is a really good movie (Matt Damon's voice, Bryan Adam's songs, and it is somewhat realistic).

In an earlier post I mentioned that Kimee was starting to really take off with her reading. Well, a major turning point was when I bought her two horse books at WalMart from the Breyer Stablemates series, Patch and Starlight. She read all the words she knew, and then we helped with the others. After a few times through, she could read the entire book herself. She has reread those books many times since. I think she finally realized that reading can be fun and interesting, not just work.

Well, this horse phase is lasting a lot longer than I thought it would. Maybe we really will have to get her a horse "when I'm a teenager".

Camping In

This morning Dad was playing with the girls so that I could work on my homework. Kimee asked if they could build a tent, referring to the blanket kind. So Daddy decided to go one step further and set up a real tent in the living room. What a fun Dad!! They had fun playing in and around it all day.

Reading with Dad

Kimee and Dad love reading together. Mom reads with her too, but it's more fun to read with Dad. Kimee is becoming a pretty good reader, all of a sudden. For a while she didn't really want to learn how to read; it seemed like work. And she will tell you that she hates doing work. But now that she can read a lot of words, it's becoming more fun. We are so proud of her!

Happy 1/2 Birthday!

Kimee is officially 5 and 1/2 and Audrey is 2 and 1/2 as of Wednesday the 21st. We celebrated by making cupcakes and singing Happy Half-Birthday! Kimee said it wasn't really a birthday, which is true. Especially since they didn't get any presents. But it was still fun and now we can officially say Audrey is 2 and 1/2 even though she looks like she is almost 4, besides the lack of hair.

Loose Tooth. . . Lost Tooth

Kimee discovered she had a loose tooth a few weeks ago. She was eating an apple and said that her tooth hurt. To my surprise, she had her first loose tooth. I guess I just wasn't expecting this yet. Wow. Doesn't this mean she is really growing up? On Jan. 14, it was really, really loose, but she didn't want anyone to touch it or try to pull it out. On Jan. 15, while I was putting Audrey down for her nap, Kimee was eating a Fruit by the Foot. She noticed something really crunchy, but she didn't want to spit it out on the floor, so she just swallowed it. Moments later, she realized that her tooth was gone, and that was what the crunchy thing was. Then she came and told me the news. Coincidentally, she had a dentist appointment that afternoon. Then she was so excited to see what the tooth fairy brought. She actually checked under her pillow for several more days just to see if the tooth fairy came again and brought more surprises. How much fun is this? I can't wait for more teeth to come out and more tooth fairy visits. Being a mom is so much fun!

beautiful girls

Here are Kimee and Audrey in their Christmas dresses (photo taken Jan. 11). You can't see all of the fun glitter (that gets on everything)! Audrey absolutely loves dressing up like a princess. Kimee isn't into that as much anymore. You may notice that she isn't wearing any tights. She can't stand how they feel on her toes, so she will rarely wear them.

We are so happy to have two beautiful daughters. We can't wait to see number three, Maddilyn. She will add so much to our family. It is going to be so much fun to have three girls!

Scarey

The same day we were putting together the bunk beds, we had a huge scare. Dave and I were busy working in the girls room, Kimee was at school, and Audrey was just off playing by herself. After a while of quiet, I thought I'd better go check on Audrey. I found her in the kitchen with a really sharp, medium sized knife. In the split second of seeing her with the knife, I was so scared and imagined all the cuts she would have on her hand. Luckily she didn't have one cut. She was trying to cut a bagel for herself. The picture doesn't really show how badly mauled this bagel was, but it does show that she had been at it for a while. Scarey! That haunted me for days thinking about what could have happened.

Bunk Bed

We finally put the bunkbeds together around the end of November. Kimee absolutely loves her top bunk. She has been going to sleep great up there by herself, along with a nice warm rice bag. However, she hates sharing a room with Audrey who gets into her stuff. Most of which Kimee didn't care about or play with until Audrey showed an interest, of course.

Growing Up So Fast

I have decided that I cannot let another day or week go by without documenting more of what is going on with my kids and our life as a family. I have the most beautiful, amazing children. Every day things happen and I think to myself, "I hope I don't forget that" and, "I hope that I will be able to remember how cute this was." And so on. Since my memory already fails me on a regular basis, I have a sickening feeling that I will forget all of these wonderful moments if I don't record them. Scrapbooking is my favorite way to do that, but I rarely have the time and when I get to it, months or years later, I surely have forgotten the details of the moment. Thus, I am turning to blogging. I have resisted because I hate to do anything that is trendy, but it seems that blogging, and then creating a hard bound book of these memories will be well worth it.
So here goes . . . .
