beautiful baby

Maddilyn on her blessing day.
May 16 , 2009

Not again!

After everything had calmed down from the blessing refreshments, we hung out with my sister Lora. Kimee and Sage were playing. After a little while, we noticed that Audrey was being really quiet and we hadn't heard from her in a while.
Dave said, "I hope she's not into the vaseline again".
I said, "She could be asleep somewhere".
Well, we were both right. I found her in our bathroom sleeping on the floor after having put a large amount of mascara all over her face. I don't know why she loves mascara so much!

beautiful blessing. . .beautiful day

We had such wonderful day on the day Maddilyn was blessed. Her dad gave her a beautiful blessing and she slept through the whole event. What a good baby! It was so nice that so many friends and family could attend. Everyone loves new baby Maddi.

Everyone had fun afterwards visiting and eating treats, and of course, the kids liked playing in the backyard. It was such a special day.

that darn wagon

Kimee had a traumatic experience a few weeks ago that she had to tell EVERYONE about. So I thought I would record it here in my blog scrapbook.
Dave was pulling Kimee and Audrey in the wagon around the neighborhood delivering "invitations." (Kimee calls anything in an envelope an invitation.)
While being pulled in the wagon, Kimee had been reaching out for rocks and sticks. They came to a delivery stop and she reached down under the wagon. Dad started pulling the wagon and Kimee's "thinger" got run over. Woops!
She screamed and ran home. Luckily they were at the next door neighbors. She ended up with two cuts on her finger from the edges of the wheel.
(In the picture she has on her finger a Cars cold pack.)

Maddilyn: one month

fruit bowl

About a month ago, I read in the Costco Connection that buying a fruit bowl is actually cheaper per pound of edible fruit than buying the whole fruit, and then you don't have to do all the work cutting it up. If the fruit is there ready to eat, you are much more likely to eat it. And since I really need to be eating more healthily, I have decided to buy a fruit bowl every time I go to Costco. So far we have gotten three and I definitely have lowered my candy intake and increased my fresh fruit intake. Good for me, huh? (Now let's see if I can cut back on the cookies and ice cream.)
Anyway, the first bowl we got we played a game of "Guess the Fruit". It was quite fun.
1. Blindfold your dad.
2. Put bite-size pieces of fruit in his mouth.
3. Dad guesses what kind of fruit it is.
4. Repeat with other family members.

temple flowers

For my mom's Mother's Day visit, we went to see the flowers at the temple with her.

After our visit to the temple grounds, we went to Grandma and Grandpa's house for dinner. Here are the girls on a walk with grandpa along the river parkway.

funny stories

Dave and Audrey took a shopping trip together at Costco. They turned towards the sporting goods area where there are big tents, slides, etc. set up and hanging from the ceiling. Dave had not looked ahead yet when Audrey gasps loudly and exclaims, "Wook at dat!" She was looking at the huge water slide on display (with 3 or 4 slides on it).
For the rest of the shopping, she continued on with her same expression,
Gasp, "Wook at dat!" (ranch)
Gasp, "Wook at dat!" (milk)
Gasp, "Wook at dat!"(cheese)
You get the idea.

Other cute things Audrey says:
(they are much cuter when you can hear the expression in her voice)
"Oh goodness!"
"Baby Mannin cryin again!"

And when she is mad, she says, "You stupid."
The other day Audrey was particularly frustrated.
She pointed at Kimee and said, "You stupid."
She pointed at me and said, "You stupid."
Then she pointed at herself and said, "You stupid."
We all started laughing.

Kimee has been trying to teach her cousin Sarah how to read the last few times Sarah has come over to play. A couple of days ago, Kimee said to me,"I really want Sarah to learn how to read. Just like Penelope's dad (the dragon in Barbie's Rupunzel movie) really wants Penelope to learn how to fly."

Kimee said to me the other day when we were sitting down to read together, "Mom, you smell like Maddi's belly button."
This is not a compliment. Maddi's belly button has been known to stink. But, I can't blame Kimee. I'm sure I was not smelling the best. I'm lucky I have time to brush my teeth every morning and night. Taking a shower is a luxury, and getting a shower AND doing my hair is near impossible. Ahh! Life with a new baby and a 2 year old is so adventurous (think Survivor)!

Mother's Day

I had a wonderful Mother's Day, not just on one day, but the whole weekend!
On Friday, we worked in the yard, mostly the back, weeding, planting, turning on sprinklers, etc. I love working outside, especially with Dave, and with the kids helping or playing. I had to take a picture so I could remember how good the yard starts out before the heat of the summer exhausts us. I love my backyard for relaxing, bird watching, kids playing, etc.

Friday night, we had a wonderful dinner of delicious, tender, grilled chicken, creamy pasta, and watermelon. For dessert, we made ice cream sundaes with homemade hot fudge sauce. It was absolutely so delicious. My sundae looked so good, I decided to take a picture of it. When I sat down to eat it, Audrey said, "Mommy, you eatin' breakfast?" I replied, yes, and decided it would be a great breakfast. After all, ice cream is one of the food groups in my opinion and can be eaten as a main dish if desired.

Saturday we planted the garden: tomatoes, zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, cantaloupe, corn, and raspberries are at the back. Kimee said to me yesterday, "Mom, I can't wait to make raspberry jam." I can't either! And she is a great helper.
We also planted pumpkin and watermelon in the flower bed along the back wall. I hope to do better on the garden this year than I did last year. I am not one to can and do a whole production with the garden. We just planted enough to have fresh veggies to eat, with maybe a little extra to freeze.

Sunday we took pictures of the girls with mom. The sun was too bright, so they didn't turn out great. We thought of going out again later, but never did. Oh well. The girls need at least one picture a year with their mom in it right? That night we went to Carol's for a yummy Mother's Day dinner/visit with her family and Dave's mom.
(We visited my mom on Thursday, but I will post pictures of that later.)
Thanks to my mom and David's mom for all they do and have done for us! Thanks to all the women (friends, sisters, teachers) that help in mothering my children, because I could not do it alone. I love being a mom! Having a brand new baby made this Mother's Day even more special to me. Happy Mother's Day!

Audrey loves Maddi

As you might imagine, Audrey loves her new baby sister a lot. This is what I found shortly after putting Maddilyn down for a much needed nap (much needed by me more than Maddi). I guess Audrey was happy the bili-lights were gone so that there would be room for her in the crib. (This happened the day after the bili-lights were taken out of the crib.)

wagon rides

Kimee loves giving wagon rides in the back yard. I am so glad she likes doing this! She says she does it for exercise. It's usually just Audrey in the wagon, but on this day it was Audrey and Sarah. That's about 100 pounds Kimee is pulling up the hill. WOW!

Audrey loves bunching

Audrey loves jumping off of things- or as she says "bunching". Her favorites are the couch downstairs, the bunk bed, and the dresser. Luckily, she waits for someone to help her. It is a little scary either way.

Maddilyn: 1 Week

Finally, some pictures with her eyes open! Here is Maddilyn when she was one week old. She is sitting on the amazing quilt that her Aunt Carol made for her.

Maddi's tanning bed

Maddilyn came home with a bit of jaundice. We had to take her in for follow-up checks, and it turned out that her levels increased quite a bit. So she got to go under the bili-lights; we called it her tanning bed. It took her a little bit to get used to them, but then she did really well. She had to be under them for about 5 days. It wasn't too bad. I mostly felt bad that she had to get her foot poked so many times.
