Christmas Letter

Christmas, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! This year has gone by in a blur- let me see if I can remember what happened in 2011…

JANUARY
We start the year off slow. A few sick days tossed in with some dental appointments, Swicey’s surgery, and start preparing for Kimee’s baptism at the Stake Baptism preview. This is the month our house hunting begins. (We end up getting the third house we offer on, in our ward. It’s a little more space, a better layout for our needs, and we get to turn our previous home into an investment property.)
FEBRUARY
We celebrate Kathy’s Dad’s 70th birthday and have a big reunion with all of her siblings and their families.
MARCH
Dave’s birthday is the first in our family for the year and we decide to do a no-party year. Dave is still enjoying working with the Bishopric serving as Ward Clerk.
APRIL
During Spring Break, we take a trip to Bear Lake with our good friends the Foxes. There we celebrate Maddi’s 2nd birthday. Now that Spring is here, Kimee and Audrey start up horse lessons again.
MAY
Kimee starts taking piano and violin lessons. Kimee and Audrey have an art show. Audrey graduates from Preschool (again). Kathy finishes off another year of teaching 1st grade and completes her year long Reading Recovery Advocacy training. The girls loved getting babysat at their Smith cousins while mom was at class.
JUNE
We spend our first week of summer vacation in St. George.  Summer fun starts off with our annual trip to Lagoon with Dave’s employer, MegaDiamond. More summer fun includes soccer camp, backyard campout, and swimming lessons.
JULY
We have two wonderful birthday girls: Kimee turns 8 and Audrey turns 5. We do makeovers, Kangaroo Zoo, Build-a-Bear, and Pirate Island for dinner. We open our weekly candy and ice cream stand and provide lots of fun for the neighborhood kids. Audrey breaks her left arm (again).
AUGUST
Kimberly is baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We close on our (new to us, but NOT new) house. Audrey gets her cast off just before school starts. Kimee is in 3rd grade, Audrey is in Kindergarten, and Maddi plays all day at Cathy’s house. Kathy is teaching 2nd grade with many of her students from last year; the best start to a school year ever!
SEPTEMBER
We spend weekends working in the yard at the new place and weekdays packing. Dave plays softball with his work team. Dave gets a new car, a blue and white 2004 Mini Cooper S with BYU platesJ He deserves some reward for all of his hard work and not one complaint about the move. BYU football starts and Dave enjoys his season tickets with good friend Jonathan.
OCTOBER
We take our annual weekend trip up to Wolf Creek with the Sinemas. A much needed break from all the work. The previous owners move out and we spend 10 days gutting the new place and putting in flooring and a few new walls. We make the dreaded move and get our rental house spotless for tenants.
NOVEMBER
We take a trip down to Arizona to be there for our niece/cousin Sage’s baptism. We have an amazing extended weekend with the Kruckenbergs. Kathy conducts the Ward Primary program and breaths a sigh of relief. We spend lots of time unpacking, painting, DI-ing, and organizing in our new place. We pause to give thanks for our many blessings. We have so much to be thankful for.
DECEMBER
This month marks one year of having our dog Swicey. We celebrate the birth of Christ, our Savior. We get to spend time with loved ones and marvel in the joy of Christmas. Kathy celebrates one last birthday in her thirties. We use the two-week break to catch up on some much needed projects, including (hopefully) updating the family blog: dkkam@blogspot.com

  1. Wow!! What a fun and fabulous year you've had. A baptism, a move, a year with a dog, lots of trips and so much more. I'd say the year was a good one. Thanks for sharing. I'd love to see pictures of the "new" house whenever you have time... :)
